Unfamiliar Shapes

"Yes, there will be many many times when I will cry and long for the familiar but it is the unfamiliar that shapes us."

These words, written by my friend Elizabeth have convicted me, encouraged me and challenged me for the new year.

Elizabeth is packing for Russia. It has been her dream to go there. And God has opened many doors to fulfill this prayer and heart dedicated for service to Him. She is wise beyond her years.... Come to think of it, she may be wise beyond my years too!

This awesome yet humble woman of God would cringe at the thought of any one putting her on a pedestal or calling her an "inspiration". But that is what she is to many of us. But her words today were just too powerful for me to read past.

In my life Lord, what is unfamiliar? How does it shape me? Am I comfortable... too comfortable?

As we get ready to launch the new CD, change things at the church, move from graphic arts to teaching, etc. etc. etc., I see a year full of the unfamiliar. I have already been tempted to back away. But I have not.

Thank you Elizabeth for all you have shared with us through your blog, words and heart. We will pray for you as you serve the Lord in Russia.

Lord, let my tomorrows be unfamilar...
